About Me

I am Anna.

My best friend and partner in crime, Echelon,

My best friend and partner in crime, Echelon,

I was born on an Indian reservation in New Mexico but was raised in Southern Utah and that is my home. It took being away from the desert to make me realize how much I love it.

I have always loved school. As a young child I attended both the morning and afternoon sessions of preschool, (so you can imagine how much of a know-it-all I’ve always been.)

I struggled with depression and disordered eating/addiction most of my life. But this blog is about Math and Disney so no one wants to hear about that! It did affect my schooling through middle school, but in high school I learned to really love learning again.

I did an advanced placement program called SUCCESS Academy. I went to the local college for half the day and high school for the other half. I had a fabulous math teacher Dr. Monteirth. Ok, maybe he wasn’t all that great of a teacher, but he was intelligent and I wanted to be just like him. When IΒ graduatedΒ with my Associate’s I knew math was what I wanted to do.

I went to UVU for a semester with a double major of math education and dance and got sick again so moved home to be close to family. I went back to the college I had attended though high school and felt pretty guilty about it. It’s known for being the party college and not very hard to get into. Some call it “grade 13”. Well the math program, despite all of this, is actually wonderful. I have loved every teacher I’ve had at Dixie State. Costel Ionita was by far the hardest teacher I’ve had but he only pushed me because he knew I had potential and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Last semester I realized I did not want to do math education anymore and it was really hard for me to come to terms with. I felt like I wasn’t working towards a goal anymore. I decided just a few months ago I may like actuarial science and that’s what I’ll be studying this fall. I’m excited!

As far as personal life goes, I don’t have much of one. Well I do and it looks a whole lot like this.

As someone who has been sad most of my life, I am eternally indebted to my love, Ryan. He makes every day fun and exciting to wake up to. As for now he is my boyfriend. πŸ™‚

My family is very close as well. We were raised to love one another above ourselves and I really love my parents for that. My family has been my biggest support and I’M SO GRATEFUL!

Left to Right: Jay, Jay's Wife Tabie, Ellen, Joseph, Me, Ryan.

That’s about all for me. I’m not terribly interesting but now you know!

That’s what I tell my girls! Life can change in a flash, so don’t spend a moment doing something that doesn’t make you happy! Hugs. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much for your comment. I’m starting to learn just because I don’t have one specific career path I can still work hard knowing ill make it SOMEWHERE someday. Thanks again ❀

  2. Wow, it sounds like you were really able to turn your life around! Just wanted to say also that I hope there is no shame with your struggles. You are an amazingly strong person to keep pushing on and deciding how to chase your dreams! The best of luck to you! πŸ™‚

      • Sure do!! I’m always telling people how we need more ladies in STEM fields–I plan to go into environmental engineering but I’m a calculus lover at heart πŸ™‚

      • Oh good Calculus will make you love engineering then I’m sure. I’m starting more business-y type classes this semester and I’m super worried I won’t love it as much as proof based math. Nerd girl problems. I love you blog thanks for checking out mine. PS I love that rhino you have in your header that’s rad.

      • Haha you’re worried you won’t like it…that’s so cute/true! And oh no, it’s supposed to be a triceratops… 😦 but hey, a rhino’s basically as cool!

  4. i love how open and transparent you are with all you’ve said about your life and yourself…keep going after the things in life that you value and it will bless you back immensely! thanks for visiting my blog and keep blogging!

  5. What an amazing introduction! You have been through some difficult challenges and have confronted them. Plus you are a female that loves math:) I always admire anyone who has that part of their brain developed…my brain has not quite accomplished that in this lifetime. Thanks for the follow by the way. i went back to university in my late 30’s to change careers…anything is possible with perseverance and loving support…you seem to have both. All the best.

  6. Hi Anna. Nice to meet you, and the family. It is a blessing to have a close family, and loving boyfriend to support you. Stay strong, and keep moving forward. Thank you for following my blog. I hope you continue to enjoy my writings, poems, and quirky thoughts. πŸ™‚ Keep smiling, and happy blogging.
    Congratulations on the Liebster Award!

  7. I enjoyed reading about you. Don’t worry. It took me until I was in my mid-40s to realize I had a novel (several actually) inside of me that needed to be written. I’m still working on them, almost a decade later, but their day will come. So will yours. Hang in there. Sounds like you’re on the right track. Thanks for following my blog, too. That made me smile this morning when I got up. Hope I don’t bore you with my musings. From one Disney fan to another, just remember – “no matter how your heart is dreaming, if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true.”

  8. Hi, Ana. Thank you for dropping by my blog. You’ve got a wonderful story to tell and you can’t go wrong with Disney. We are all kids at heart. Cheers! πŸ™‚

  9. Hi, Anna,
Thank you for liking Pepper and her crazy ways of dealing with life.
We need to move on and not get stuck with the back at the wall. And you found your own way in doing this. I like it.

  10. Hi Anna! Thanks so much for the follow! I am dismal at math and Disneyland is one of my least favorite places on earth, BUT, you (and your family and your cat) are delightful! Oh, I really like Utah too! My son is a student there, and we have family there as well. It’s a beautiful state! Enjoy the journey…

  11. I’m glad that you like my post “When mom’s away…,” and I hope it made you smile. For some reason, my posts are usually darker, maybe as an outlet, but we all feel better when we smile. Keep your lips turned up.

  12. Lovely page. Thank you. And thanks for following “Visionary Views.” Maybe you will stop by my other two that are attached. I have been a mental health and addictions clinician for over 20 years and I often write about related topics. Best to your and yours!

  13. Thanks for the visit and for following my blog. Life’s path has many turns and ups and downs, but as long as you are doing what you want to or feel is right, all is good. I look forward to following you on your way πŸ™‚

  14. Thanks for stepping by and following my blog. I think you are a brave girl for changing your path. I am still looking for mine πŸ™‚

  15. Thank you for following my blog!
I am so happy to have discovered your blog – this is one of the best ‘about’ pages I’ve ever read.
There is quite a lot about you that I can totally identify with, not the least of which is having had a math teacher (many, many years ago) who inspired me to love – and actually enjoy – math.
I’m looking forward to many happy returns to your blog – count me as a follower! πŸ™‚

    • Oh Lyann thank you for the kind words! I’ve been overwhelmed since I first typed this About Me page because I had no idea how many people actually cared about the person posting this nonsense haha! Thanks for you kind words!

      • You are welcome – and by no means are your words ‘nonsense’! It’s obvious you are an amazing person, and I’m grateful to have encountered you here in the blogosphere! I am truly looking forward to many, many happy returns to your blog πŸ™‚
        Best Wishes,

  16. Your life story is very interesting! I admire your courage to walk away form something you no longer want to do. Actuarial Science is a great career (from what I hear). Best wishes!!! Continue to smile each day and enjoy life’s simple pleasures (like Ryan and Echelon). πŸ™‚

  17. Actually you are incredibly interesting! Thanks for connecting with me – your blog is a treat. keep up with the math whatever form it takes. you go girl! Thanks for following my three gratitudes project. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it.

  18. well based on your name…I am assuming your name is anna gaard? assuming I am correct, my great grandmother was annie gard. wildly enough.
many thanks for the follow! I am returning the favor and following back! great blog by the way. I look forward to your reads!

  19. Hi, Anna! I just dropped by to say “Thank you” for following my blog, Walking the Cat . . .BTW, my wife’s name is Ana (short for Anastasia but everyone calls her Ana). Reading your “About” page has convinced me of the futility of attempting to learn any math beyond balancing a checkbook (for some reason or other, I’m always 9 cents off!). I can definitely empathize with the depression you’ve experienced and your successful way of dealing with it (Cats are remarkably therapeutic creatures; exquisitely sensitive to their masters’ (and mistresses’) state of being). Good luck with all you endeavor to attain. It’s all yours for the taking!

  20. Nice to meet you, Anna. Thanks for stopping by and following Lessons by Heart. Good luck with the math thing. It was my least favorite subject. Algebra especially – as I tried to imagine what possible use it could have to my adult life. Thirty plus years later I can say – Not Much! Geometry would have been of more value…especially when I was a welder! πŸ™‚

  21. Thanks for the follow! And P.S. I love Disneyland, and miss it terribly. I used to go almost every year when I lived in CA, and now I haven’t been in almost 4 years. I think I’m having withdrawals; so your blog will have to suffice for now. πŸ™‚

  22. Thanks for the follow.
Your love for math is great.
Math has proved difficult to many.
Mastering it needs lot of patience and dedication.
Writing too requires the same.Hope you master the art of writing .
    Pursue,. persevere and preserve .

  23. Thanks for following my blog “Eyes to Heart.” … Everything you experience can bring you to a greater awareness of your Self. It’s not always pleasant, but it can be defining with the right outlook and support. You are fortunate to have such a supportive and loving family around you. Enjoy your new journey in actuarial science. I don’t exactly know what that is but it sounds fun for someone who loves math. (I never did … arts geek, myself. πŸ˜‰ … ) … Be well, Dorothy πŸ™‚

  24. Thanks for liking & following my blog. Your blog reminds me that while in high school I was so frustrated with algebra. So I promised myself I would take it again so I could understand it. I retook it twice in college, and now I’m no longer intimidated. I even took stats! Shows that with patience & practical application (like you demonstrate) you can learn.

  25. Your honesty and openness comes through so strongly. Thank you for liking my blog because it allowed me to see yours. I forwarded your blog to one of my high school friends whose daughter works at Disney world in Florida as Snow White and various characters. I think she’ll like your Blog! Keep chasing your dreams and they will come true. πŸ™‚

  26. Thanks for stopping by and for following my blog. I hope life works out for you and I’m happy to hear that you have a nice guy by you side.
